Senior Fellows

The Senior Fellows are a group of experienced business and academic leaders with extensive experience and knowledge in the field of technological innovation.  Our Senior Fellows participate in a variety of Mack Center activities, including research projects and initiatives, and insight-building events.  We wish to thank our Senior Fellows for their enthusiastic contributions and for generously sharing their expertise.

Ravi Aron
Ravi Aron spent six years as a professor at the Wharton School; he is currently Assistant Professor of Information & Operations Management at the USC Marshall School of Business, Univ. of Southern California.  Prof. Aron has done extensive research on outsourcing as a critical business challenge for the 21st Century.  He spoke on this topic at the 2007 Mack Center conference on "Technology Enabled Business Transformation."



 
Pradip Banerjee
Dr. Banerjee is chief executive officer at Xybion Medical Systems Corporation, which provides software and services to the pharmaceutical and chemical research communities.  He previously served as president and CEO of the University City Science Center in Philadelphia.  As a Senior Partner at Accenture he developed a $100 million biotech/pharma practice.  He has head of worldwide project management and new opportunity/business development in Kodak's pharmaceutical division and held various R&D management leadership positions at SmithKline and Abbott.

Larry is the Founder and Managing Director of 4iNNO, a leading consulancy on Open Innovation.  4iNNO creates new innovation models and billion dollar-plus growth platforms for client companies. 

He is on the Executive Education faculty of the Wharton Executive Education Program entitled: "Full Spectrum Innovation: Driving Organic Growth."

Larry has been associated with the Mack Center since he was VP of Innovation at Procter and Gamble, which became our first industry partner in 1996.  Larry led P&G's "Connect+Develop" strategy to source 50% of the company's new product and service innovations from outside the company.  He has twice received the Wharton School's Industry Leader award.


Dr. Donald Kalff, Senior Fellow at the Mack CenterDonald Kalff 
Dr Donald Kalff is co-founder and CEO of Immpact, a biotech start-up company in the field of immunology, as well as advisor to the biotech investment fund BTF and to  Roland Berger strategy consultants.  Dr. Kalff was formerly a member of the Executive Board at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and previously served in executive positions at Royal Dutch/Shell.

He actively participates in the debate about corporate governance and enterprise models by lecturing, writing and consulting.  He is the author of the book, An Unamerican Business: The Rise of the New European Enterprise which examines and contrasts American and U.S. corporate governance systems.  Dr. Kalff has been a presenter and panelist at several Mack Center events including "Winners and Losers in Green Technologies" and "Innovation and Organic Growth: Balancing Risk and Reward."

 

Sarah Kaplan, Senior Fellow, Mack CenterSarah Kaplan
Dr. Kaplan is Associate Professor of Strategy, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. She was Assistant Professor of Management at the Wharton School (2004-2009) and Management Consultant at McKinsey & Company (1990-1999).

She co-organized the 2007 Mack Center Conference entitled "Setting an Agenda for the Social Studies of Nanotechnology" co-sponsored by the Chemical Heritage Foundation; and co-organized the annual Wharton Technology Conference for academics.

Dr. Kaplan holds a Ph.D. from the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T.; an M.A. in International Relations and Economics from Johns hopkins and a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA.


Michael MavaddatV. Michael Mavaddat

Michael Mavaddat is Executive Vice President, Innovation and Development with Decision Strategies International, Inc.  Mr. Mavaddat helps clients develop and implement strategies for managing uncertainty, innovation and emerging technologies.  His focus is on developing actionable solutions that draw upon leading edge research and his own expertise in scenario planning, strategy, managing innovation, and behavioral decision theory.  Michael was CEO and co-founder of Intelligent Pixels, Inc., a venture capital-backed optical communications component company, where he successfully led the development of a novel Liquid Crystal-based optical switch in collaboration with researchers at universities in UK, Australia and Spain. Michael was the project manager and a contributing author for the Mack Center’s report on the future of Biosciences.  He has contributed to several scenario planning workshops hosted by the Mack Center in collaboration with DSI.

Michael holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, Phi Beta Kappa, BA in Management Engineering/Economics, cum laude, from Claremont McKenna College and an MBA, with distinction, from Cornell University's Johnson School

 

Scott Snyder, President/CEO of DSI and Senior Fellow, Mack CenterScott Snyder 
Dr. Snyder is the President and CEO of Decision Strategies International, a leading strategy firm focused on increasing the Strategic Aptitude of organizations through education, consulting, and tools. He has over 19 years of experience in business leadership, strategic planning, decision support systems, and technology management for both Fortune 500 companies and start-up ventures. Dr. Snyder has held executive positions with several Fortune 500 companies including GE, Martin Marietta, and Lockheed Martin.. He has also started business ventures in software including OmniChoice, a CRM/Analytics software applications provider, where he served as CTO and CEO, and was selected as a candidate for Entrepreneur of the Year for the Philadelphia Region.

Dr. Snyder co-hosted (with Michael Tomczyk) the annual ET Update Day on "The Future of Connectivity" in 2008 and will co-host the ET Update in 2010 which will focus on "The Future of Computing."

 

Prof. Gita Surie, Senior Fellow at the Mack CenterGita Surie
Gita Surie is Assistant Professor of Management, Marketing and Decision Sciences at Adelphi University.  Her research interests include technological innovation, organizational evolution, globalization, entrepreneurship, emerging economies, and leadership.

She is the author of the 2009 book, Knowledge, Organizational Evolution, and Market Creation: The Globalization of Indian Firms from Steel to Software (Edward Elgar Publishing); and co-author of Southern Asia Cluster: The Organizational and Societal Worldviews and their Foundations (New Delhi: Sage Publications).  Professor Surie holds a Ph.D. in Applied Economics and Management from the Wharton School, a master's in Economics from Columbia University and a B.A. with honors from Loreto College, Calcutta University.
